Heinz History Center and RiverQuest

to create history-themed

RiverTour Pittsburgh

Sparked by the 250th anniversary of the founding of Pittsburgh, RiverQuest and the Senator John Heinz History Center have embarked on a new partnership to establish a four-hour combination tour that will premiere to school groups in Spring 2009.  RiverTour Pittsburgh is slated to encompass a 2-hour experience at the History Center, paired with a 2-hour history voyage on the river.

The tour combines the unique resources of exhibits and education programs at the Heinz History Center with the talents of the RiverQuest education and boat crew to provide a local history tour that can include industrial focuses like steel, coal and glass, to modern transformations such as green building and sustainable design.  The on-river segment of the program is planned to take place on board Explorer, RiverQuest's new green-designed boat.  Currently docked at Bayou Labatre, Alabama, Explorer is undergoing final engine modifications and is expected to arrive in Pittsburgh sometime this year.

Check back for more information about this new opportunity for school and community groups,  starting in Spring 2009.
