Another Year on the Water

This has been an exciting year for RiverQuest, full of challenges and opportunities.  As we ring in the New Year, we would like to take this opportunity to share with you a snapshot of RiverQuest accomplishments for 2007.

• RiverQuest School Programs served more than 4,000 students

Participating students ranged from grade 4 through university level.

RiverQuest continued community programming for Beaver and Greene counties, and kicked off a new community partnership between RiverQuest and Armstrong County that included school, public, group and charter programming based at the beautiful Kittanning Riverfront Park in Spring 2007.

• RiverQuest Teacher Programs served nearly 200 teachers

In conjunction with ASSET, Inc., Allegheny Intermediate Unit, Arts Education Collaborative, Carnegie Museum of Art, 3 Rivers Wet Weather, ALCOSAN, Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Regional Center for Science Teachers, and others, RiverQuest conducted or participated in six teacher professional development programs during the year.

• RiverQuest's new public Adventure Sails attracted 500 passengers

RiverQuest launched a new public river tour business in June 2007.  Saturday ticketed education tours were offered every Saturday through the fall on the vessels Discovery and Scout.

An additional 1,500 visitors participated in RiverQuest educational activities at special events like Kennywood Education Day, Venture Outdoors Festival, FontanaFest, FlowFest, Alternative Transportation Festival, Fort Armstrong Folk Festival, Waynesburg Rain Day, Ohio River Watershed Cruise, SciTech and more.

New RiverQuest identity, destination and way-finding signage was installed in and around Carnegie Science Center and the riverfront trail to facilitate access to RiverQuest’s boats and docking facility.

The riverfront trail near RiverQuest’s gangway and permanent docking facility was regraded and landscaped to make it ADA accessible, thanks   to capital funding from ARAD.
