Employment Opportunities - Education Crew

 

CURRENT HIRING STATUS:

OUTREACH PRESENTER - "EXPLORING THE MARCELLUS SHALE"

RiverQuest is seeking applicants for several part-time/seasonal outreach educator positions that will be dedicated to a traveling education program to 21 counties in western/northern PA and northern/central WV.  The program explores the basics of the Marcellus Shale activity in the area from a standpoint that addresses both challenges and opportunities.  Programs are hands-on activity-based, presentation based, or a combination of both. Requirements:

  • Background in science education or related field
  • Gregarious and skilled at presenting and public speaking
  • Ability to learn new science content and facilitate group activities and/or presentations effectively
  • Ability to move and lift equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds
  • Excellent self-management and customer service skills required
  • Consistent ability to utilize own vehicle required; mileage currently reimbursed at 55 cents per mile
  • Ability to travel and at times stay overnight in distant areas where multiple days of programs may occur

TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES

RiverQuest has opportunities from time to time for talented, enthusiastic and adventuresome people to become a part of our a river-based teaching crew! Positions are available seasonally. Qualified individuals have a unique opportunity to teach science, math, and environmental education onboard our floating classroom. Positions, when available, are available in spring (March-June), summer (June-August), and fall (September-November). Training begins a month before each season. Teaching staff can also serve as customer service stewards, teaching crew leaders, and offsite presenters.

These are part-time positions, generally 2-5 days per week in season, 4-8 hour days.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in education, science or related field
  • Knowledge in at least one of the following areas: freshwater ecosystems, water quality, navigation, aquatic life, green science and sustainability
  • Previous teaching experience in formal or non-formal setting preferred
  • Enjoy working with children and adults
  • Willingness to work in the outdoors, around water, and onboard a boat
  • Act 34/151 clearances
  • Pre-employment Drug Testing and Random Drug Testing program participation
