RiverQuest and Creek Connections present Bayer Climate Fellows

Sustainability Camp 2008

The Bayer Climate Fellows Sustainability Camp is the result of a new collaborative partnership between RiverQuest and Creek Connections, an environmental education program of Allegheny College, Meadville, PA.

This innovative residential camp is designed for a select group of international teens (ages 14-16) who will gather for two weeks of adventure and fun, while exploring climate change and environmental sustainability through the lenses of Western Pennsylvania river ecosystems.

Bayer Sustainability Camp provides hands-on group learning about environmental
sustainability and global climate change through rural and urban river experiences that are fun, academically challenging, and physically engaging.

Facilitated by RiverQuest, the two-week experience encompasses Creek Connec-tions' "Creek Camp" at Allegheny College on pristine French Creek, sustainability units with Carnegie Mellon University and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, freshwater ecology and green science excursions on board the RiverQuest fleet, industry experts from Bayer MaterialScience and Bayer CropScience, and fun recreational opportunities exemplary of western Pennsylvania.

Bayer Climate Fellows Sustainability Camp will serve students from Germany and the United States. Allegheny River Stewardship Project Seeks Volunteer Anglers

Join leading researchers in environmental and behavioral health sciences, concerned citizens of the Alle-Kiski Valley river communities and Allegheny River watershed, and strategic partners to help determine the sources and types of river pollutants present in the Allegheny.

 

On designated "Community Days," RiverQuest will run four 2-hour fishing and education trips for students.  This includes the following Saturdays and locations:

      May 10 - Ford City at Crooked Creek

      May 31 - Springdale/Cheswick at Reliant Energy Site

      June 7 - Freeport at Buffalo Creek

      June 14 - Upper Allegheny near Bradford

In 1991, a pair of peregrine falcons began nesting at the Gulf Building in downtown Pittsburgh, and "nesting pairs" crop up in the local news from time to time, on buildings or bridges. Though peregrines were removed from the federal endangered species list in the late 1990s, they are still listed as an endangered species by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Are there still nesting pairs of peregrine falcons along the rivers in Pittsburgh?
